Siamese fighting fish/ Betta fish have nostrils!!

Welcome to the world of the Siamese Fighting Fish. Free tips about keeping Siamese fighting fish. Lots of Siamese fighting fish news and much much more on Siamese fighting fish, your Home and family pet’s home.

Smell, touch and feel?

Your Betta fish/ Siamese fighting fish can smell! Most fish can smell!

Most fish have nostrils!

In these nostrils are sensors that can detect odors in the water and this sends signals to their brain.

You have probably heard or seen on TV that sharks can detect blood from other fish or humans, over long distances. Well, the same goes for your Siamese fighting fish.

Fish also use their sense of smell to detect the smell that females emit. This detection of the female scent is said to signal the ‘willingness’ to breed!

Touching and feeling things is done with sensory receptors that stimulate the senses of touch and feel. What your fish actually feels is not sure.

Our ‘Samurai’ often comes up to the top of the tank for what seems like a ‘cuddle’ when I put the tip of my finger in the water. Maybe it’s just to say ‘hello’.
