Siamese fighting fish= ‘Ikan Betta’

Welcome to the world of the Siamese Fighting Fish. Free tips about keeping Siamese fighting fish. Lots of Siamese fighting fish news and much much more on Siamese fighting fish, your Home and family pet’s home.

What’s in a name? Well, ‘BETTA’, the word, comes from a local Siamese name for Siamese fighting fish. The contemporary Thai name for this fish is ‘Pla-kad’.

Those of you who do not want an aggressive Siamese fighting fish and would like an alternative could consider the ‘Betta imbellis’ or ‘peaceful betta’.

This ‘peaceful betta’ is native to Malaysia and can grow to a maximum size of 8cms. or 3inches.

When you compare the ‘peaceful betta’ to the Siamese fighting fish, it is much more docile and will do well in a community fish tank with other tranquil and non aggressive species.
